Theme: "The Birth of the Lord Jesus Christ"
Text: Luke 2:25-32
25. And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon, a just and devout man, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26. And he had been divinely warned by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27. And he came into the temple, moved by the Spirit. And when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the law, 28. he took him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29. Lord, now lettest thou thy servant Depart in peace, according to thy word. 30. For my eyes have seen your salvation, 31. Salvation that you have prepared before all peoples, 32. Light to enlighten the nations, And glory to Israel, your people.
Let us remember:
The birth of Jesus was coordinated from start to finish by the powerful hand of God the Father. There were ancient revelations of several centuries, by several prophets including Isaiah 9:6 prophesying that Jesus Christ would come in the form of a baby. Micah 5:2 prophesied that Jesus would be born in Bethlehem. Exegetes say that there are 48 specifically messianic prophecies and more than 324 individual prophecies that are linked to the Messiah. This means that God has long prepared the world to welcome its savior Jesus. Mary is visited by the angel Gabriel to warn her of God's plan. Joseph is also visited in a dream by God, in order to give him a course of action. There were also angels who appeared to the shepherds to announce the birth of Jesus. And there God has not ceased to move us because long before the birth of Jesus, he had prepared Simeon, a righteous and pious man, who was waiting for the consolation of Israel. God had put the Holy Spirit upon him in order to remain awake and determined, vigilant and persevering. Through him, God wanted to show the world that Jesus is a gift from God for humanity. Simeon confirmed that Jesus was the consolation of Israel, the savior of humanity. He confirmed that it was the long-awaited messiah who was to come and who came. Simeon had a beautiful promise received from the Holy Spirit who had divinely warned him that he would not die before having seen the Christ of the Lord. For this, the Spirit of God pushed him to go to the temple on the day of the consecration of Jesus in order to testify to the divine and messianic nature of the son of God, savior of the world. He says that Jesus is the light, the glory of Israel and the salvation of the world. Excellent Sunday. Amen
