Renouncing Evil

Friday January 28, 2022

Theme : " Renouncing Evil " Text : Matthew 23:22-24

22. And he who swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it. 23. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you tithe mint, dill and cumin, and leave what is more important in law, justice, mercy and faithfulness: this is what had to be practiced , without neglecting the other things. 24. Blind drivers! which sinks the midge, and which swallows the camel.

Let's remember:

What is it worth paying tithing if we neglect charity and mercy toward our neighbor? The tithe is an exercise of faith, it is the proof that one knows how to make a sacrifice to God. However, even a heathen can make this sacrifice when justice, mercy and faithfulness concern only those who love God and who put His Word into practice. The evil with which we are reproached here is to do what is superficial and to forget the most important. Paying tithing is already good; but to this must be added justice, mercy and fidelity. One can pay tithing and impose injustices on others. One can pay one's tithing and have a heart without mercy towards one's neighbour. One can pay one's tithing and lack fidelity. But the opposite is not possible. One cannot practice justice, mercy, and faithfulness and forget about tithing. Let's give up the half journey, let's go all the way to be good drivers. Excellent Friday and good start into the weekend. Amen Alain Louz.-
