Theme : " Pay your debts, you will make yourself a lever for enrichment "
Text : Matthew 17: 24-27
24. When they arrived at Capernaum, those who received the two drachmas addressed themselves to Peter, and said to him, Does not your master pay the two drachmas 25. Yes, he said. And when he came into the house, Jesus warned him, and said, What do you think, Simon? The kings of the earth, from whom do they collect tributes or taxes? of their sons, or of strangers? 26. He said to him, Strangers. And Jesus answered him, The sons are therefore exempt. 27. But, so as not to scandalize them, go to the sea, cast the hook, and take the first fish that comes; open your mouth, and you will find a stater. Take it, and give it to them for me and for you.
Let us remember :
Jesus paid his taxes so as not to scandalize his contemporaries. He respected the established social order. He did not exclude himself from civic duties. While this tax payment could have been dispensed with, people would have tolerated it; but he paid his taxes and those of Peter. The sons of a king are exempt from taxes; Jesus who is the Son of the King of kings would be just as exempt. We too, sons and daughters of the King of kings, should have been exempted. However, the Lord Jesus teaches us to pay our debts so as not to scandalize others; in order to be consistent in society; in order to comply with established laws. Let nothing prevent us from paying our debts because it is a source of multifaceted blessing. Let's go to work to have the money and pay our debts. Let us be faithful in our commitments. Excellent Wednesday. Amen Alain Louz.-
