Behold, your King comes

Saturday December 9, 2023

Theme: “Behold, your King comes

Text: Zechariah 9:9-10

9. Be overjoyed, daughter of Zion! Shout for joy, daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king comes to you; He is righteous and victorious, He is humble and riding on a donkey, On a donkey, the foal of a donkey. 10. I will destroy the chariots of Ephraim, and the horses of Jerusalem; And the bows of war will be destroyed. He will proclaim peace to the nations, and will rule from sea to sea, from the river to the ends of the earth.

Let's remember:

This is the colt, the colt of the donkey spoken of in Matthew 21, the prophecy taken up in the New Testament. This earlier prophetic announcement from several centuries before Jesus is still relevant today in view of its relevance. This very reassuring message calls us to the joy of receiving our coming King. Let us strip ourselves of the cloak of sin that so easily envelops us and go to meet the glorious King. Behold, our King comes; he is clothed in humility and grace; He is righteous and victorious, He is holy and riding on a colt, the foal of a donkey. Let us be transported with joy, children of God, and prepare for the arrival of our savior. The coming King does not come to strut about the world; he comes to restore order wherever sin has established itself as a rule. He will destroy the chariots of Ephraim, and the horses of Jerusalem; the bows of war will be destroyed. He will proclaim peace to the nations, and he will rule from sea to sea, from the river to the ends of the earth. In this vision, the prophet Zechariah sees unfolded before him the glorious appearance of the Messiah and the foundation of his reign. Your King is coming: Israel had had several kings but none of them was their king in the sense intended by God. They were not kings to God's liking. Behold the true King from the bosom of God is on his way to make the difference between the temporary and the eternal, between the sinner and the righteous, between the defeatist and the victorious, between the proud and the humble. Have a great Saturday. Amen
