Topic: “Worshiping God in Spirit and Truth”
Text: Exodus 20:2-6
2. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3. You shall have no other gods before me. 4. You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5. You shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6. and showing mercy to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Let us remember:
Depending on where God has taken us, it is our duty to be grateful to Him, by serving Him in spirit and in truth. Ingratitude could make us unable to be obedient to the one who paid the price of our salvation when we leave servitude. We were wandering, lost, destined for destruction, eternal hell; and yet God abandoned everything to descend lower than earth; to take on our sin and make us bear his holiness. Only one thing is asked of us in return, let us respect his work accomplished on the cross. Let us grant Him uncompromising reverence. Let us worship Him in spirit and in truth. To worship God in spirit and in truth is to be faithful and devoted to serving God, despite the hazards of life. To worship God in spirit and in truth is to refuse the mishmash; to have no other gods before His face. However, we worship money, work, women, men, fashion, the telephone, social networks, beauty, the pleasures of this world. To worship God in spirit and in truth is to not make for ourselves any graven image, or any representation of earthly, aquatic, or celestial creatures. To worship God in spirit and in truth is to not bow down before God's creation, and to serve only the Creator and not the creature. If by some extraordinary chance, we fail to worship God in spirit and in truth, if we do anything and everything, God will reprimand us that could extend over several generations. And who knows if our current difficulties are not the result of the reprimands inflicted on our ancestors? But if we are faithful, if we worship God in spirit and in truth, we will be blessed for a thousand generations. The choice is clear, let us be true. Excellent Monday. Amen
