The Christian, Salt of the Earth

Sunday, September 8, 2024

Theme: "The Christian, Salt of the Earth"

Text: Matthew 5:13

13. You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its flavor, how will it be salted? It is good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

Let us remember:

This metaphor is very rich in meaning because it sums up all the positive impact that each child of God must have. Salt may well be visible in its known form, but if it has not been put in good conditions, it will lose its flavor. Salt helps to preserve purity, by preventing corruption. With salt, we can prevent food from decomposing. A child of God must prevent the pagan from losing his soul through eternal death. Being the salt of the earth, the Christian must save lost souls. The salt of the earth must be translated into benevolent attitudes and the fruit of the Spirit. He who is the salt of the earth must manifest love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control. He must love God and serve Him without tiring. He must live an exemplary life centered on prayer and obedience to God. He sanctifies himself each time and flees sin. He chooses his companions and fights to save as many pagans as possible. This is, in summary, what we call the salt of the earth. Now, if our life is characterized by sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery, idolatry, magic, hatred, quarrels, jealousies, anger, rivalries, divisions, sects, murders, drunkenness, excesses at the table and similar things, it has lost its flavor, we must return to the fundamentals of the Christian life and live by the Spirit. We must let ourselves be led by the Spirit so as not to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by God and men. Excellent Sunday. Amen
