Theme: "Let your actions be in accordance with the Word of God"
Text: Daniel 1:8
8. Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the king's food or with the wine that the king drank, and he asked the chief eunuch not to force him to defile himself.
Let us remember:
For our actions to be in accordance with the Word of God, we must force ourselves not to accept compromises that would harm our faith. A child of God is set apart; he can no longer expose himself to sins. He can no longer accept to defile himself voluntarily, with full knowledge of the facts. He does not put his head where there is visible danger. We are told to flee from sin in all its forms. Let us protect ourselves from the defilements that could be found in eating, drinking, extravagant attire, perverse dancing, outrageous makeup, in short, our actions must set limits that must not be crossed. A glass of wine can defile an unaccustomed person. Paul told the Ephesians not to get drunk on wine because it is debauchery. Food can also push us beyond excess at the table if we lack control. For ordinary mortals, eating alongside a king is an immense privilege. But Daniel refused to follow their pagan actions when he was a young boy without bodily defect, handsome in appearance, gifted with wisdom, intelligence and education. He had everything to let himself go alongside the king. However, he resolved to keep his purity to be in accordance with the Word of God. Let us learn from Daniel how to honor God by our actions so as not to contradict our commitment to follow Jesus and abandon sins. Excellent Saturday. Amen
