Topic: "Jesus' Presence Sanctifies Our Lives"
Text: John 4:27-34
27. Then his disciples came and were astonished that he was talking with a woman. But no one said, "What do you want?" or, "What are you talking about with her?" 28. Then the woman left her waterpot and went away into the city and said to the people, 29. Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Is this not the Christ? 30. They went out of the city and came to him. 31. In the meantime, the disciples urged him to eat, saying, "Rabbi, eat." 32. But he said to them, "I have food to eat that you do not know about." 33. Then the disciples said to one another, "Has anyone brought him something to eat?" 34. Jesus said to them: My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work.
Let us remember:
The presence of Jesus sanctifies our lives. It teaches us to set a scale of priorities that should help us in making our decisions. When the presence of Jesus invites itself into a life, the person, even if he is a pagan, abandons what he was doing to go and announce the good news. The presence of Jesus attracts a whole people out of the city to receive sanctification and change the course of life. The people abandoned everything to go to the presence of Jesus. They did not doubt the message of this unstable Samaritan woman because she was sanctified by the presence of Jesus. The corrupted thoughts of the disciples, who believed that Jesus had already eaten, were sanctified by the presence of Jesus. By receiving the presence of Jesus in our life, we become dependent on the divine nature. We change our priorities in the choice of our activities. Even our daily diet undergoes a change. It is when we live in the presence of Jesus that we will be sanctified to the point where our favorite food will consist of doing the will of God. When His presence sanctifies us, our priorities change in favor of God who is the head of our mission. A life sanctified by the presence of Jesus, devotes itself to the proclamation of the Word of God. This becomes an absolute priority to the detriment of worldly appetites. It even sacrifices its nutritional health to prioritize the spiritual health of God's people. It waits to feed hungry souls first before feeding its own flesh. Jesus abandoned the food of the disciples. Excellent Friday and good start to the weekend. Amen
