Theme: "The presence of Jesus sanctifies our lives"
Text: Mark 2:15-17
15. And as Jesus was reclining at the table in Levi's house, many tax collectors and sinners also reclined with him and his disciples; for there were many of them, and they had followed him. 16. And the scribes and Pharisees, seeing him eating with tax collectors and sinners, said to his disciples, Why doth he eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners? 17. And when Jesus heard this, he said to them, They that are whole have no need of a physician, but they that are sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.
Let us remember:
The presence of Jesus attracts people who hunger and thirst for the goodness, love and justice of God. It also attracts slanderers and detractors. Where there is life, there come those who aspire to life. Our soul can desire something that the flesh minimizes. This is the case with the scribes and Pharisees who seemed to fight Jesus while they were addicted to his actions. Some have been sanctified by the presence of Jesus. Even when we are at the table, the presence of Jesus does not lose its splendor because it always sanctifies, no matter the circumstance. At the table, the presence of Jesus can sanctify the meal but also the dialogue, without forgetting the participants in the meal. The presence of Jesus sanctified the house of Levi the tax collector. He who was reputed to be poorly regarded for the work he did, he received the noble presence of Jesus. His behavior had changed because the presence of Jesus sanctifies our lives. No one can enter the presence of Jesus and leave as he entered, except for proven hardening of heart. The presence of Jesus is very useful for the people of bad life that we are; including me first. We must desire this presence because Jesus came for us sinners. It is exactly the person of bad life who needs the presence of Jesus. The saints who like to judge others do not need the presence of Jesus because they believe themselves already sanctified. Excellent Sunday. Amen
