Theme : " The Retribution of the Wicked " Text : 2 Chronicles 26:16-23

16. But when he was mighty, his heart lifted up to destroy him. He sinned against the Lord his God: he entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense. 17. The priest Azariah came in after him, with eighty priests of the LORD, 18. brave men, who opposed king Uzziah and said to him, You have no right, Uzziah, to offer incense to the Lord! This right belongs to the priests, sons of Aaron, who were consecrated to offer them. Come out of the sanctuary, for you are committing a sin! And it will not turn to your honor before the Eternal God. 19. Anger took hold of Uzziah, who was holding a censer in his hand. And as he was angry with the priests, leprosy broke out on his forehead, in the presence of the priests, in the house of the LORD, by the altar of incense. 20. Azariah the high priest and all the priests looked upon him, and behold, he had leprosy on his forehead. They threw him out hastily, and he himself hurried out, because the Lord had smitten him. 21. King Uzziah was a leper until the day of his death, and he dwelt in a house separated as a leper, for he was cast out of the house of the LORD. And Jotham his son was the head of the king's house and judged the people of the land. 22. The rest of the deeds of Uzziah, the first and the last, were written by Isaiah the son of Amoz the prophet. 23. Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial of the kings, for they said, He is a leper. And Jotham his son reigned in his stead.

Let's remember:

King Uzziah had a long reign as ruler of Judah in the 8th century BC. He is described as a military leader, king builder and having developed agriculture. He was 16 when he became king, and he reigned 52 years in Jerusalem. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. Uzziah applied himself to loving God and since he sought God, the Eternal made him prosper. This is how God supported his wars against the Philistines, the Arabs, the Maonites and many other peoples. His fame extended to the borders of Egypt, for he became very powerful. He had machines made in Jerusalem, invented by an engineer, which were placed on the towers and on the angles, to throw arrows and large stones at the enemies. Alas when he was powerful, his heart was lifted up in pride like a wall; and that is enough to lose him. He sinned against the Lord his God: he entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar. Now, this right belongs to the priests, sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to offer them. Because of his pride, God struck Uzziah with leprosy, he made him isolated until the day of his death. God punishes him in the temple where he wanted to become a priest. Uzziah had not had time to repent. Break the pride that is in us. Excellent Tuesday. Amen Alain Louz.-
