Theme: “The good witness of the Christian family”
Text: John 1:6-8
6. There was a man sent from God: his name was John. 7. He came as a witness, to bear witness to the light, that all through him might believe. 8. He was not the light, but he appeared to bear witness to the light.
Let's remember:
John is the precursor of Jesus Christ. He appeared to announce the glorious coming of Jesus. He announced his coming, he received him, baptized him and offered to the world the testimony of his Lordship and his divinity. It was John who testified that Jesus is the light; the true light, which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. John bore witness to him, and cried out, “This is he of whom I said, He who comes after me has gone before me, for he was before me.” John is the symbol of the perfect witness, the one who does not steal the glory of others, he has not usurped the honor of Jesus. Jean was not a false witness, he was not ill-intentioned, he was upright and did only what was within his power. As the Jews pressed him to say who was he? John did not fall into their trap; he declared, and did not deny it, he declared that he was not the Christ, nor was Elijah. Rather, He says He is the voice of one crying in the wilderness, “Make straight the way of the Lord, as Isaiah the prophet said.” Our world today is full of dishonest people who peddle influence and pretend to be what they are not. Let us not be impostors but give good testimony wherever we are. Let's be real. Let's avoid counterfeiting and illegal copying. Our nature as Christians must be reflected everywhere. Let us bear witness as John the Baptist did, without exaggerating and without lying, without seducing, without reducing and without destroying. Have a great Thursday. Amen
