The death of Jesus Christ: foundation of our salvation

Wednesday March 27, 2024

Theme: “The death of Jesus Christ: foundation of our salvation

Text: Matthew 26:29-31

29. I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom. 30. After singing the songs, they went to the mountain of olives. 31. Then Jesus said to them, I will be a stumbling block for you all this night; for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.

Let's remember:

Jesus Christ made an appointment with his disciples for a meeting in the kingdom of heaven. He was already talking about his resurrection before he died. He announced his eternal reign even before saving humanity. The Lord Jesus spoke of his future as if he had already succeeded in the mission of the cross. It is this projection that the children of God that we are lack. Our faith must lead us to experience the things to come as if they had already passed. Here, Jesus proclaims the imminence of eternal salvation to his disciples who see nothing but smoke. No one has been able to continue this topic to dig in and see how this eternal life would happen. Nevertheless, our Lord announces, in the same place, his death and his resurrection and then he also adds salvation. Jesus Christ did not hide salvation from his disciples, he reassures them and already lets them know that in the celestial city, we will partake of healthy and holy wine. Why get drunk here on earth when we know that real wine awaits us with God in his kingdom? Despite these beautiful announcements, Jesus had to continue his journey towards the cross, towards death. Also, note that all the disciples were on the verge of becoming an occasion for stumbling even if they did not yet know it. The sheep would be scattered when they saw the master being seized by the envoys of the chief priests and the Sanhedrin who were seeking some false testimony against Jesus, sufficient to put him to death. All this proves that only the death of Jesus is the source of salvation. Have a great Wednesday. AmenAlain Louz.-
