Topic: "The Birth of the Lord Jesus Christ"

Text: Luke 2:21-24

21. And when the eighth day had come for the child to be circumcised, he was named Jesus, which was the name given him by the angel before he was conceived in his mother's womb. 22. And when the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, 23. as it is written in the law of the Lord: Every firstborn male shall be consecrated to the Lord, 24. and to offer as a sacrifice two turtledoves or two young pigeons, as is prescribed in the law of the Lord.

Let us remember:

Jesus went through all the stages of an ordinary life. Stages through which all the male children of his generation and even of ancient generations went. His parents respected the religious tradition that on the eighth day, the child had to be circumcised. This was done. Let us note here that Jesus was born under the laws and traditions of the Old Testament. Each law was respected by Joseph and Mary. As recommended by God before he was conceived in his mother's womb, he was given the name Jesus, a name that the angel had indicated. The law of Moses required a period of purification, at the end of which, the child had to be presented to the Lord. And, when the days of their purification were fulfilled, Joseph and Mary carried him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord. Exodus 13:2 teaches us this: "Consecrate to me every firstborn that is born among the Israelites; whether it is a boy or an animal, it is mine." It was in response to this recommendation that Hannah brought her only son Samuel before Eli the priest. 1 Samuel 1: "27. It was for this child that I prayed, and the LORD has heard the prayer that I made to him. 28. Therefore I will lend him to the LORD; he will be lent to the LORD all his life. And they worshiped there before the LORD." For this, Eli had not refused to take Samuel into his home; to consecrate him to God. Hannah and Elkanah, just like Mary and Joseph, offered animal sacrifices for this ceremony, as is prescribed in the law of the Lord. Excellent Saturday. Amen
