Topic: "The Birth of the Lord Jesus Christ"
Text: Luke 2:8-14
8. And there were in that country shepherds abiding in the fields, keeping watch over their flocks by night. 9. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them. And they were greatly afraid.n10. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all people: 11. For to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12. And this will be a sign to you: You will find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. 13. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying: 14. Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, good will toward men!
Let us remember:
For the birth of his Son, God did not skimp on the means to impose the understanding of the valuable news. It was necessary for everyone to be certain that the one who was born was not born of an ordinary birth. God took the time to associate the angels but also a whole heavenly army to certify this birth. If Jesus had been born without anyone knowing; who would testify to his lordship? Now, the shepherds were put to work so that their testimony would be a pledge of truth. Jesus is the lamb of God; it was necessary for the shepherds to be informed of his birth to mark a turning point between the divine and the human, between the shepherds and the good shepherd. The activity of these shepherds had been interrupted because life was to take a decisive turn: the savior was born. Israel had been waiting for the messiah for ages; but they did not know that he would be born that day. The privilege was given to the shepherds to go and live this event and to spread this good news. They believed and obeyed what the angel had told them. As for us, despite the angels of God and the shepherds who speak to us through dreams, preaching, through reading the Bible, through Christian books and multiple revelations, we do not accept Jesus, we remain immobile and cloistered in the comfort of our rebellion. Now again, God announces to us good news, which will be for all the people the subject of great joy: it is that today, in our hearts, a Savior has been born to us, who is Christ, the Lord, let us welcome him. Excellent Thursday. Amen
