Topic: “My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit

Text: 1 Corinthians 6:13-20

13. Foods are for the stomach, and the stomach for foods; and God will destroy both. But the body is not for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14. And God, who raised up the Lord, will also raise us up by his power. 15. Do you not know that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ and make them the members of a harlot? 16. Far be it! Do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For, it is said, the two will become one flesh. 17. But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him. 18. Flee from sexual immorality. Every sin that a man commits is outside the body; but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19. Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20. For you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

Remember:

A woman who is several months pregnant knows how to choose the foods to eat to protect her baby from all kinds of misfortunes. She will be very selective in her diet. She will always monitor the movements of her baby in her womb. She will control her own emotions and her physical activities will change. This care for the baby and her attitudes show that she is taking good care of her health and that of the baby. Likewise, every Christian who hosts the Holy Spirit must change his behavior. The old things must pass away in order to keep the Spirit in joy and peace. Let us keep our whole being (body, soul and spirit) away from worldly defilements that would stifle and sadden the Spirit that lives in us. Let us not bring our being into guilty compromises. Sometimes, the physical part of the body appears healthy but the Spirit or soul is defiled in different ways. Pride, greed, anger, jealousy, lust, laziness and many other sins compromise the action of the Holy Spirit in us. Certain behaviors drive the Holy Spirit from his temple. The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and not a cave of impurity, theft, swindling. If we attach ourselves to a sin, it becomes a member of our body. How can we be members of the body of Jesus when impurity is a member of our body? By correlation, impurity would be a member of the body of Jesus; which is fatal and guilty before God. Excellent Sunday. Amen
