Meeting the Risen One

Thursday April 4, 2024

Theme: “Meeting the Risen One

Text: Luke 24:28-35

28. When they were near the village where they were going, he seemed to want to go further. 29. But they urged him, saying, Stay with us, for the evening is approaching, and the day is fading. And he went in, to stay with them. 30. While he was at table with them, he took the bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to them. 31. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; but he disappeared from before them. 32. And they said one to another, Did not our hearts burn within us, when he spoke to us by the way, and explained to us the Scriptures? 33. Rising up that same hour, they returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven, and those who were with them, assembled together 34. and saying, The Lord has truly risen, and has appeared to Simon. 35. And they related what had happened to them on the way, and how they recognized him when he broke the bread.

Let's remember:

Impatience makes us travel in vain far from the place where we should stay to wait for the promise. The disciples went far from Jerusalem when they should have been together with the others. But the love of Jesus being high, broad, deep and true, he followed them, he revealed himself to them to bring them back to the other disciples. The third day, the day Jesus should be resurrected, is the day chosen by these disciples to go to Emmaus, instead of waiting to see the promise. Plus they left before the end of the day so all you had to do was wait. Our Lord, knowing that they were going in the wrong direction, brought them back to the others. Jesus gave them the bread and their eyes of faith were opened but the Lord could not continue to stay with them physically because they would first have to inflame them with the fire of the Holy Spirit. This new phase of Jesus' life with his disciples is different from the old one. They will now have to work with Him but having Him within them because the Spirit of Jesus lives within us. He is already preparing them for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. From that moment on, the resurrected man had changed his mode of operation; he has passed into another dispensation. He shortened the time he should be physically in front of his disciples to increase the time he should be spiritually within them. Life changes when we meet the resurrected. Have a great Thursday. Amen
