Looking back prevents progress

Monday July 3, 2023

Theme: “Looking back prevents progress Text: Genesis 19:17-26

17. After leading them out, one of them said, Flee for your life; do not look behind you, and do not stop in all the plain; flee to the mountain, lest you perish. 18. Lot said to them: Oh! no, Lord! 19. Behold, I have found favor in your eyes, and you have shown the greatness of your mercy toward me, by preserving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountain, before disaster overtakes me, and I shall perish. 20. Behold, this city is near enough for me to take refuge in, and it is small. Oh! that I can save myself there... isn't it small?... and that my soul lives! 21. And he said unto him, Behold, I again grant thee this grace, and I will not destroy the city of which thou speakest. 22. Hasten to take refuge there, for I can do nothing until you have arrived there. This is why the name of Zoar was given to this city. 23. The sun was rising over the earth, when Lot entered into Zoar. 24. Then the LORD rained down upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD from heaven. 25. He destroyed these cities, all the plain and all the inhabitants of the cities, and the plants of the earth. 26. Lot's wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.

Let's remember:

The past can be gone and obsolete. However, we can draw from it good experiences that have contributed to the advancement of our being. Unless instructed by God, let us not look back lest we freeze our lives. The past must be revoked with its painful memories. We have an obligation to rush towards the best tomorrow in order to build a new life that will benefit our posterity. One should never be attracted by past bad things; those who have taken us away from God. We must not like places where sin abounds, especially when God moves us from such a place. Our future is not in the past. But the past can be looked at in our mirror of faith in order to build on old ruins new foundations more solid than the previous ones. Do not take Lot's wife as a model to follow because she is the symbol of a backward life, incapable of repentance. Anyone who looks back no longer progresses because it is impossible to advance well by looking back. It is even risky to move forward and be distracted by looking here and there. This denotes lack of concentration and immaturity. Since the good things are in front of us, let's go towards them without regretting the past, without looking back and without stopping. 2 Corinthians 5:17. “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature. The old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." Excellent Monday. Amen Alain Louz.-
