God Visits His People

Monday December 18, 2023

Theme: “God Visits His People

Text: Exodus 4:29-31

29. Moses and Aaron went on their way, and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel. 30. Aaron reported all the words that the LORD had spoken to Moses, and he performed the signs in the sight of the people. 31. And the people believed. They heard that the Lord had visited the children of Israel, that he had seen their suffering; and they bowed down and prostrated themselves.

Let's remember:

We know that Moses is a type of Christ. A type is a kind of image, an illustration. The type first appears as a precursor; then comes the real character. Through Moses, God visited his people. He did wonders with his hand. The Lord God does not wait for us to invite him to visit us. Moses was tending his father-in-law's flock when the Lord appeared to him. It was like a surprise for him to see God in the form of a bush burning with fire. The bush was all on fire, but it was not consumed. This is how we will recognize the visitation of God. There is always a divine touch that differentiates the visit of an ordinary character from that of God. And even in the visitation of God, there is the choice of the person to visit. Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, was priest of Midian. He was better placed to receive a visit from God; and yet it was Moses, his shepherd, who received a visit from God. The sovereign God visits us to keep us company, to deliver us, to protect us, to save us, but also to guide us, to teach us in short how to live in our lives. When God visits us, let us accept our neighbor like Aaron, with whom we can share the tasks and not carry the burden of the mission alone. Let us be reassured, God's visit is accompanied by several lessons and recommendations. Let us open our hearts to receive our God who visits us. He heard our cries of pain and sent us a savior. Have a great Monday. Amen
