Community of properties

Theme : “ Community of properties Text : Genesis 12:1-9

1. The LORD said to Abram, Depart from your country, from your fatherland, and from your father's house, into the land which I will show you. 2. I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a source of blessing. 3. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse those who curse you; and all the families of the earth will be blessed in you. 4. Abram went, as the LORD had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he came out of Haran. 5. Abram took Sarai, his wife, and Lot, his brother's son, with all the properties they had and the servants they had acquired in Haran. They set out to go into the land of Canaan, and they came to the land of Canaan. 6. Abram went through the land to the place called Shechem, to the oaks of Moreh. The Canaanites were then in the land. 7. The LORD appeared to Abram, and said, I will give this land to thy seed. And Abram built there an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him. 8. From there he moved to the mountain east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar again to the LORD, and he called on the name of the LORD. 9. Abram continued his walks, advancing toward the south.

Let's remember:

Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother's son with all the properties they had and the servants they had acquired in Haran. They set out to go into the land of Canaan. God's plan was for Abram; it is his name that would become great. He would be the father of a nation. However, on leaving Haran, Abram took with him Lot and all the properties they had acquired in that city. They put their possessions together and set out for the destination indicated by God. Was it necessary to carry Lot around in this divine procession? Had Abram been commissioned to export Lot with him on the path to his destiny? Especially since Lot also had a lot of possessions according to Genesis 13:5 “Lot, who was traveling with Abram, also had sheep, oxen and tents”. The merger of Abram's possessions with Lot's was the cause of a great conflict which separated them. Genesis 13:7. "There was contention between the herdsmen of Abram's flock and those of Lot." On the road to our destiny, let us listen to the instructions of the Eternal at the risk of associating our properties with those of the partners who will bring us problems. Excellent Friday and good start into the weekend. Amen Alain Louz.-
