Theme: “Behold, your King comes”
Text: Zechariah 3:8-10
8. Hear therefore, Joshua, high priest, you and your companions who sit before you; for it is men who will serve as signs. Behold, I will bring my servant, the Branch. 9. For behold, as for the stone which I set before Joshua, there are seven eyes in this one stone; behold, I myself will engrave that which shall be engraved therein, saith the LORD of hosts; and I will remove the iniquity of this land in one day. 10. In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, ye shall invite one another under the vine and under the fig tree.
Let's remember:
The Lord God announces the imminent arrival of his seed. The Branch is one of the names of Christ as mentioned in Isaiah 4:2. The Branch of the Lord is his manifestation, otherwise called Emmanuel “God with us”. On several occasions the name germ recurs such that in Jeremiah 23:5 it is called the Sprout of David; in Zechariah 3:8 it is written “my servant the Branch”; in Zechariah 6:12 it is written “the man whose name is Branch.” This is also the message that the Gospel of Luke presents to us. Jesus Christ is both the offspring and the germ, he is the lion of the tribe of Judah as well as he is the lamb of God... Joshua is presented to us here as a precursor of Jesus Christ, he is therefore a type of Christ whose the parallel only differs by the Lordship, the royalty and the powerful priesthood that the true Savior Christ will bear. And even the angels and the disciples who will later be around Jesus to serve him are mentioned there in order to clearly announce the near arrival of a savior King. The other strong image revealed by God here concerns the stone with the seven eyes which is also Christ, in whom we find the fullness of the knowledge of the mind of God, and which is also the full expression of this thought, for we see the Lord himself marking the engraving. It is therefore Christ, the King who comes to take away the sin of the world and establish justice, peace and eternal salvation. This is enough for us to rejoice with ours because from now on salvation has fallen to us through the grace that Jesus brings us. Have a great Thursday. Amen
