Theme: “Age: a factor of engagement or disengagement in the work of God” Text: Jeremiah 1:4-9
4. The word of the Lord came to me, saying: 5. Before I formed you in your mother's womb I knew you, and before you came out of her womb I had you. consecrated, I made you a prophet of the nations. 6. I answered: Ah! Eternal Lord! behold, I cannot speak, for I am a child. 7. And the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child. For you will go to everyone to whom I send you, and you will say whatever I command you. 8. Fear them not, for I am with you to deliver you, saith the LORD. 9. Then the LORD stretched out his hand, and touched my mouth; and the LORD said unto me, Behold, I put my words in thy mouth.
Let's remember:
A saying of popular wisdom teaches us that: "To well-born souls, valor does not await the number of years". This also applies to the call to the priesthood. Low age is not a brake that can restrict selection in the service of God. God selects a person according to his sovereign will, regardless of the age of the applicant. In most cases, the consent of the called party is not taken into account at all. Qualification from God is accompanied by supernatural tools and abilities capable of moving ordinary mortals. Jeremiah was called to the service of God from the womb and even before he was formed. From there, we no longer speak of age but of predestination since its call dates from before its conception. When the Eternal God calls a person to his service, he has all the potentialities necessary for the exercise of his call. The person will no longer need to exert effort except for obedience to his Master. For the rest, his immaturity will be filled by the supernatural abilities that accompany the exercise of his call. The effort to make is to let yourself be carried away. Jeremiah's age could not influence his activity as a prophet of the nations, especially since God had already put his word in his mouth. It was enough to open your mouth and the word of God came out freely. The consequences of his words would no longer depend on him but on God who speaks through him. Even in the face of the challenges that would arise in the full exercise of his ministry, God reassured him, he had to fear nothing because he was with him to deliver him. Don't underestimate us anymore, don't underestimate us anymore, don't underestimate the young servants of God, don't underestimate them because they have God with them. If we wait to grow before serving God despite his call, let's change our minds. Excellent Wednesday. Amen Alain Louz.-
