Theme: “A Savior is born to us”
Text: John 1:11-14
11. She came to her own people, and her own people did not receive her. 12. But to as many as received him, to those who believe on his name, he gave power to become children of God, who were born, 13. not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14. And the word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; and we have beheld his glory, a glory like the glory of the only Son from the Father.
Let's remember:
John is the only one who described Jesus as the Word incarnate. He also described the filiation linked to the acceptance of the Word; making us children of God. John demonstrated through his reading of events that to receive the Word of God is to be born again by the power of God. There is also a subtle fusion that wise souls can make, between the Word made flesh and the new birth of the Christian. It is because the Word became flesh that people received it and became children of God. This is the strong point of the nativity: Jesus was born to bring us to be born again. Everyone who is born again becomes a child of God, dedicated to salvation. In other words, Jesus was born to save, to deliver us from the darkness and eternal death to which we were exposed. The Word being the light, it illuminated the darkness of our hearts and gave us the ability to be reborn (walk in the light). Therefore it is said, “Unto us a Savior is born.” In our walk with God, the most striking event is seeing a God (Word) become flesh (human) in order to recover us from the depths of the shadow of death where we were hidden. And Jesus, who is the word made flesh, dwelt among us, full of grace and truth. Even today and for several millennia, humanity continues to contemplate his glory, a glory drawn from the Father of whom he is the only Son. Curiously, when she came to her people, they did not receive her. A Savior rejected at the time of his birth and even during his ministry but sought after when perdition was evident. Have a great Wednesday. Amen
