Topic: “Your sins have separated you from God”
Text: Psalms 38:1-5
1. (38:1) A Psalm of David. For a memorial. (38:2) Do not punish me, O LORD, in your anger, or chasten me in your fury. 2. (38:3) For your arrows have struck me, and your hand has been heavy on me. 3. (38:4) There is no soundness in my flesh because of your anger; there is no strength in my bones because of my sin. 4. (38:5) For my iniquities are mounted over my head; like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me. 5. (38:6) My wounds are festering and festering because of my foolishness.
Let us remember:
This psalm of David is made of regrets, remorse, repentance. It is an awareness of a soul that prunes its faults and asks for God's help and forgiveness. Repentance is a change of heart and state of mind that brings us closer to God. It consists of turning away from sin and turning to God to obtain forgiveness. It is motivated by love for God and by the sincere desire to obey his commandments. David was very quick to say no to evil. He humbled himself before God when his heart condemned his own actions. We too, let us be quick to repent quickly, as soon as the Holy Spirit convinces us of sin. Sins separate us from God. Let us not amass them at the risk of erecting a fortress that would hide his face from us. Sins provoke the wrath of God. They call down the arrows of God against us because God punishes sin without exception. The hand of God is heavy on sin and no sinner can exonerate himself. The wrath of God falls on sinners who do not seek to repent. There are failures, evils, illnesses, trials that are the result of our stored sins. There are evils that are healed just by repentance.
Let us cling to the life of holiness so that nothing separates us from the love of God. Excellent Friday and good start to the weekend. Amen
