Theme: "Your sins have separated you from God"
Text: Romans 8:7-8
7. For the carnal mind is enmity against God, because it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8. And those who live according to the flesh cannot please God.
Let us remember:
Everything that pleases the flesh is abhorrent to God. Worldly and carnal pleasures are a great enemy of faith. They distance us from the will of God. Moreover, those who are faithful to Jesus Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. They know that there is an incompatibility between loving Jesus and at the same time pleasing the flesh. The two are in opposition. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk according to the Spirit. Already the flesh has desires contrary to those of the Spirit, and the Spirit has desires contrary to those of the flesh; the two desires are opposed to each other. If the flesh submits to God, it ceases to be rebellious; it associates itself with the Spirit: it enters into obedience to God and we will say: the spirit is well disposed as well as the flesh. It is at this moment that the flesh submits to the will of the Spirit which is in us. To arrive at this point, we must treat our flesh harshly. We must keep it subject to the spirit for fear of being rejected after having preached to others. Let us be nauseated by sin in every way. It is true that it is difficult but we can achieve it if we follow the gentle inner way of God which tells us not to sin. Now those who live according to the flesh cannot please God. To live according to the flesh is to be rebellious against God. It is also being a follower of everything that is vulgar, retrograde, worldly… Living according to the flesh is living far from God by privileging the life of sin which is the opposite of the life of holiness. So, let us put to death the desires of the flesh, let us walk according to the Spirit, and we will not fulfill the desires of the flesh. Excellent Wednesday. Amen
