Theme: “You shall not speak false witness against your neighbor”
Text: Psalms 27:12
12. Do not hand me over to the pleasure of my adversaries, For false witnesses rise up against me And people who breathe only violence.
Let's remember:
As our weekly theme says: “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor,” obviously it is painful when people bear false witness against us. Here, David demonstrates his trust and hope in the Lord God. Some exegetes call it “psalm of Gethsemane”, an allusion made to verse 2 “When the wicked come against me to devour my flesh, it is my persecutors and my enemies who stumble and fall”. Judas was advancing with a large crowd armed with swords and clubs to seize our Lord Jesus, he asked them "Who are you looking for?" They answered: "Jesus of Nazareth". Jesus said to them, “It is I.” They fell back and fell to the ground (John 18:3-8). David, loving his trust in the Lord, exclaims in verse 3 of the same Psalm 27: “If an army were to encamp against me, My heart would not fear; If a war arose against me, I would still be full of confidence.” Let us trust in God. Despite false witnesses, the Lord will keep us against their evil tongues, he will protect us and cover us with his wings. This is why in verse 4, David asked the Lord for one thing, which he ardently desired: he would like to dwell all his life in the house of the Lord, to contemplate the magnificence of the Lord and to admire his temple . For he would protect him in his tabernacle in the day of evil, He would hide him under the shelter of his tent; He would raise it on a rock. In the face of false witnesses, let us have the same confidence as David. Excellent Tuesday. Amen
