Widows in Action

Thursday June 22, 2023

Theme: “Widows in Action Text: Acts 9:36-39

36. There was in Joppa, among the disciples, a woman named Tabitha, which means Dorcas: she did many good works and gave alms. 37. She fell ill at that time, and died. After washing her, they placed her in an upper room. 38. As Lydda is near Joppa, the disciples, having heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him, to beg him to come to them without delay. 39. Peter got up and went with these men. When he arrived, he was taken to the upper room. All the widows surrounded her weeping, and showed her the tunics and garments that Dorcas made while she was with them.

Let's remember:

For ordinary mortals, the immediate reflex of widows would be to cry each in their own corner. What would be the use of such a gathering of widows around a lifeless body? Fortunately, there is meaning in this meeting, a kind of union of faith and comforting actions; to tell Peter how this Tabitha should not die so soon. Here the action of the widows is a supplication but also a complaint and a lament raised before God who gives life. Widows should always keep all the people who support them in prayer. They must pray for the people who bring them a smile, the people who bring them a ray of sunshine. There are people who bring joy to hearts saddened by the loss of a spouse. Widows should not be insensitive to these gestures. They must always express their gratitude to God and to those concerned for this manifest and recurring involvement. The action of the widow is not to always wait for Tabitha to come and give her clothes. She must work with her hands; God will bless the fruit of his hands. Tabitha will come with an extra blessing which will add to the blessing received from God through her own work. To be in action for a widow is not to feel sorry for her case, but to move forward with her tunic received from Tabitha to form a union of spirit with the other widows around Peter, in order to pray to the God miracles. Excellent Thursday. Amen Alain Louz.-
