Theme : " Widowage: fatality or responsibility?"
Text : Luke 2:36-38
36. There was also a prophetess, Anna, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very advanced in years, and she had lived seven years with her husband since his virginity. 37. Remained a widow, and eighty-four years old, she did not leave the temple, and she served God night and day in fasting and in prayer. 38. Having also come up at this same hour, she was praising God, and she was speaking of Jesus to all those who were awaiting deliverance from Jerusalem.
Let's remember:
Widowhood is a stage of life that must necessarily happen to those who are married. There is a common denominator to all people: it is the passage through death. Unless God advises otherwise, no one can exonerate himself from it as Elijah or Enoch did. However, when death takes one of the spouses, the other can devote the rest of his life to serving God night and day. It is Anne who teaches us through this text. Despite her advanced age, she served God, she fasted and prayed night and day. At the age of eighty-four, certain dietary restrictions are no longer easy because of the weakness of the organism. Widowhood is not an opportunity to become discouraged; it is not a fatality. Anne, being a prophetess, had continued to exercise her gift with zeal in spite of her widowhood and her age. She could have been overcome by discouragement; having lost her husband very early; and having only lived with him for seven years. On the contrary, she praised God, and she spoke of Jesus to all those who awaited the deliverance of Jerusalem. Excellent Thursday. Amen Alain Louz.-
