Theme: “Who shall we serve in the world?” Text: Joshua 24:15-18
15. And if ye find it not good to serve the LORD, choose today whom ye will serve, either the gods which your fathers served beyond the river, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land ye dwell. I and my household will serve the Lord. 16. The people answered and said, Far be it from us to forsake the LORD, and serve other gods! 17. For the LORD is our God; it is he who brought us out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, us and our fathers; it is he who has worked these great wonders before our eyes, and who has guarded us during the whole route we have followed and among all the peoples through whom we have passed. 18. He drove out before us all the peoples, and the Amorites who dwelt in this land. We too will serve the Lord, for he is our God.
Let's remember:
What beautiful statements. What great commitments. What lofty promises. At some point in life, you have to take a break in order to do some introspection; see your life in front of a mirror; examine his liabilities, his assets and lay the foundation for a secure life in Christ. It is during this phase of self-consultation that one must make the precious choice to serve God. And there, we must separate ourselves from the clutter and useless concessions that take us back far from our commitments. There are things you never negotiate in the Christian life. Among them is the decision to serve God, which is non-negotiable. One embarks one's family there because there is no question of running away and letting one's family perish. With the family, there is a contract for life; we live together, we serve together, to inherit the kingdom of God. Those who do not want to serve Yahweh have the choice not to block our commitment. They should not discourage us; they should not be a stumbling block for us. It is time to make a choice between serving God or serving false gods. Anyone who does not serve God, serves a false god, even if he does not know it. We are surrounded by several divinities but me and my house, we will serve the Eternal. May this pious wish of Joshua be ours too. Let every reader answer, and say: Far be it from me to forsake the LORD, and serve other gods, I also will serve the LORD, for he is my God. Excellent Friday, good end of June and good start to the weekend. Amen Alain Louz.-
