Theme: “Welcoming the Lord Jesus Christ

Text: John 5:43-45

43. I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not receive me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. 44. How can you believe, since you glory in one another and do not seek the glory that comes from God alone? 45. Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. The one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have placed your hope.

Let us remember:

The prophets announced the arrival of a savior who would come to proclaim the reign of God and give his life for the salvation of humanity. Several passages speak of Jesus in the Old Testament. However, we have given less consideration to these messages while they are fulfilled in all generations. John urged us to understand the meaning of the warnings we read in the Bible. He said, “These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life through his name” (John 20:31). God had said through Moses, “I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brothers, and I will put my words in his mouth, and he will speak to them everything I command him” (Deut. 18:18). It is this word that will condemn us if we believe only in Moses and not in Jesus. For Moses had warned us to listen to the prophets. When the prophets appeared, they announced Jesus; but we have not listened to Moses or the prophets. Who else could convince us to welcome the Lord Jesus Christ? The Holy Spirit speaks to us in vain. Instead, we have welcomed distraction, social media. The churches are empty but the stadiums, movie theaters, nightclubs and bars are full. The time to go to church has been replaced by sports, walking, cycling. We prefer to watch television than to read the Bible. All humanity has welcomed the cell phone with joy. And if we had welcomed Jesus like that, it would be wonderful. We must welcome the Lord Jesus Christ by letting our lives be directed by Him through His Word. Excellent Friday and good start to the weekend. Amen
