Theme: “Watch your words!

Text: Ephesians 5:4

4. Let no filthy talk, no foolish talk, no jesting, which are not proper; let us hear instead thanksgiving.

Let us remember:

Since we are children of God, let us be exemplary, let us follow the example of Jesus our model. He never made jokes, never made humor, not even mockery. He did not have his head in distraction. He took care of his spiritual life. In reality, what amuses us is also what leads us to sin. Whoever wants to live far from the sinful life must keep his tongue in check. Let us put a filter on our mouth in order to permanently sort out the things to say and those to reject. The filter prevents us from saying enormities, jokes, miserable hurtful words. Let no one hear from us, neither dishonest words, nor foolish talk. Let no word ever come out of our mouth contrary to modesty. Let us not hold a speech contrary to probity, to loyalty. Let us not play games leading to sin, nor jokes, things which are contrary to propriety. Anything that leads to mockery and amusement is on the edge of the wall of distraction. Many of us spend a good part of our day making jokes, often we lack time to read, meditate and share the word of God. Even prayer is occasional for us while the joke, the mockery, the distraction are permanent. We find our joy in laughing at others as if it pleased the Lord. The apostle Paul invites us today to rigor in order to make God happy. Let us rather hear thanksgiving coming out of our mouths. Excellent Friday and a good start to the weekend. Amen
