Theme: “Vigilance and expectation" Text: Matthew 24:1-14 1. As Jesus was leaving the temple, his disciples approached to point out the buildings to him. 2. But he said to them, Do you see all this? Truly I tell you, there will not be stone upon stone here that will not be knocked down. 3. He sat on the Mount of Olives. And the disciples came in particular to ask him this question: Tell us, when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the world? 4. Jesus answered them, Take heed that no one deceives you. 5. For many shall come under my name, saying, I am the Christ. And, they will seduce many people. 6. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars: beware of being disturbed, for these things must happen. But that will not be the end yet. 7. Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there shall be famines and earthquakes in divers places. 8. All of this will only be the beginning of the pain. 9. Then you will be handed over to torment, and you will be put to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. 10. Then also many will fall, and they will betray one another, they will hate one another. 11. Many false prophets will arise, and they will deceive many people. 12. And, because the iniquity will have increased, the charity of the greater number will cool. 13. But he who endures to the end will be saved. 14. This good news of the kingdom will be preached throughout the world, as a testimony to all nations. Then will come the end. Remember: We are called to be vigilant as we await the return of our Savior Jesus Christ. The description of the events that will qualify this arrival shows that there will be nothing new. People will see the same signs that have been visible for many centuries. There will be wars and rumors of wars as we have heard before. There will be false christs who will seduce the people of God; as they have been doing for a long time. There will be conflicts between nations; as we see from past world wars and even now, conflicts between nations persist. Famines and other earthquakes are legion. Christians will be handed over to death, Christians will be hated, in short all the martyrdom reserved for whoever bears the mark of Jesus in his life, who takes up his cross and follows the master to Golgotha. Iniquity will increase in the same way that the Word of God will be preached abundantly. These habitual signs will change only in the minds of freedmen; they will see the cruelty of these events with spiritual eyes in order to better judge their significance. Natural and carnal judgment will put a brake on vigilance because it will be assimilated to the daily experience of the modern world. Let's be vigilant while we wait, let's not dream. Excellent Tuesday. Amen Alain Louz.-
