Theme: “Two paths, two destinies: choose the right one” Text: Galatians 5:16-17
16. So I say, Walk in the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the desires of the flesh. 17. For the flesh desires contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit desires contrary to the flesh; they are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you would.
Let's remember:
Our flesh exerts strong pressure on our mind in order to make it succumb to its desires. The Holy Spirit of God comes to the aid of our human spirit so that it does not succumb to the pressures of the flesh. According to Romans 8:16: "The Holy Spirit himself comes and tells our spirit that we are children of God." It is to weaken the flesh and direct our human spirit towards a choice informed by the Holy Spirit of God. The Spirit of God and our flesh do not have the same desires; they do not have the same aspirations; they do not have the same orientation. They are opposites in their choices and this ambivalence gives our human mind a hard time. This is what makes the battle of our flesh against our own spirit permanent despite the great contribution of the Spirit of God. This is also what explains the call to prayer given by Jesus to his disciples when he said to them in Mark 14: 38. "Watch and pray, that you may not fall into temptation; the spirit is well disposed, but the flesh is weak.” Let us listen to the choices that the Holy Spirit makes on our behalf so as not to succumb to the choices of the flesh which are linked to its earthly desires such as pride, hatred, slander, lust, fornication, impurity, dissolution, idolatry, magic, enmities, quarrels, jealousies, animosities, disputes, divisions, sects, envy, drunkenness, overeating... He who listens to his flesh does with her the choice of her carnal, diabolical and worldly desires. So let us walk in the Spirit, and we will not fulfill the desires of our flesh. The desires of another person’s flesh can affect us too. Let us be careful with our choices because our destiny depends on it. Have a great Thursday. Amen Alain Louz.-
