The unalterable love of God for man in distress

Theme : " The unalterable love of God for man in distress " Text : John 4: 1-19

1. The Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that he made and baptized more disciples than John. 2. However, Jesus did not baptize himself, but they were his disciples. 3. So he left Judea and returned to Galilee. 4. As he had to pass through Samaria, 5. he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field which Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6. There was Jacob's well. Jesus, tired of the journey, was sitting by the well. It was about the sixth hour. 7. A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, Give me a drink. 8. For his disciples had gone into the city to buy food. 9. The Samaritan woman said to her: How do you, who are a Jew, ask me to drink, who am a Samaritan woman? -The Jews, in fact, do not have relations with the Samaritans. 10. Jesus answered him, If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that says to you, Give me to drink! you yourself would have asked him to drink, and he would have given you living water. 11. Lord, said the woman to him, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep; where would you get this living water from? 12. Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us this well, and who himself drank from it, and his sons and his flocks? 13. Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again; 14. But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst, and the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water, which will spring up into eternal life. 15. The woman saith unto him, Lord, give me this water, that I thirst no more, and that I come hither to draw no more. 16. Go, Jesus said to her, call your husband, and come here. 17. The woman answered, I have no husband. Jesus said to her, You were right in saying, I have no husband. 18. For you have had five husbands, and he whom you now have is not your husband. In that you said the truth. 19. Lord, said the woman to him, I see that you are a prophet.

Let us remember :

The ordeal of life can be multidimensional if it affects various areas. We can lack everything but if we lack the revelation of the Word of God; we are in the grip of eternal perdition. The absence of knowledge and therefore of revelation is a distress for man, he perishes for lack of knowledge. Also, it is distressing to lack sentimental stability to the point of multiplying divorces to the point of tiring the patience of God. Jesus is moved by it and he teaches us today to drink ourselves from Him. He is the source that never runs dry; drinking the water of his Word deters the subsequent onset of thirst. The thirst for water and marriage proves the insatiability of our nature before the things of this life. Jesus will give us the best provisions available within him. Let's trust Him. Excellent Tuesday. Amen Alain Louz.-
