Text : Matthew 21:5-6
5. Say to the daughter of Zion, Behold, your king is coming to you, Full of meekness, and riding on an ass, On a colt, the foal of an ass. 6. The disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them.

The passage that states “Say to the daughter of Zion, Behold, your king comes to you, Full of meekness, and riding on an ass, On a colt, the colt of an ass. is taken from the prophetic book of Zechariah in chapter 9 verse 9. Some exegetes say that Zechariah is a prophet who lived during the reign of Darius 1st in the 6th century BC. Here, Jesus quotes the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9 and confirms his kingship without waffling. The dice are cast, the message released; ambiguities and illuminated shadows. Now it is clear that the prophecy of the liberation of Israel is fulfilled because the people were waiting for the king who would come to free them from Roman occupation. The people thought of a political liberation made up of war, pillage, looting, extermination, in short, to get Jerusalem and all of Israel out of the Roman Empire. The Eastern custom of the time demanded that the king be mounted on a donkey, when it was necessary to enter the city. Although presented as a king, it is appropriate to point out his gentleness and his humility; which is not the character of ordinary kings.
