Theme : " The Retribution of the Wicked "
Text : Genesis 18:23-25
23 Abraham approached and said, “Will you really destroy the righteous with the wicked? 24 Perhaps there are 50 righteous people in the city. Will you also suppress them and not forgive this city because of the 50 righteous who are in the midst of it? 25 To kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the fate of the righteous would be identical to that of the wicked, this certainly does not correspond to your way of acting! He who judges all the earth, will he not apply the law?”
Let's remember:
You and I must remember what Paul teaches in Romans 3:10 “as it is written: There is no righteous, not even one...23. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. Let's get rid of this idea that we are righteous and the others are sinners. We are just as sinners as those we love to judge. However, God simply justifies us; therefore it is not the result of our effort, it is God who gives us grace. This account of Abraham relates to the time when God required humans to produce works for them to be justified. Our efforts would not suffice to be declared righteous; but by our obedience to God through faith; the grace of God covers our shortcomings. We are exactly the wicked one who was justified by Jesus Christ at the cross of Calvary. No merit but his grace extricates us from the lot of the wicked and ranks us among the saved. He who is justified must continue to sanctify himself otherwise he will still resemble the wicked and thus receive his retribution. Excellent Thursday. Amen Alain Louz.-
