Theme : " The Retribution of the Wicked "
Text : Matthew 27:3-10
3. Then Judas, who betrayed him, seeing that he was condemned, repented, and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and to the elders, 4. saying, I have sinned, in betraying the blood innocent. They answered: What does it matter to us? It's up to you. 5. Judas threw the silver coins into the temple, withdrew, and went to hang himself. 6. The chief priests picked them up, and said, It is not lawful to put them into the sacred treasury, since it is the price of blood. 7. And after deliberation, they bought with this money the potter's field, for the burial of strangers. 8. This is why this field has been called the field of blood, to this day. 9. Then was fulfilled what had been spoken by Jeremiah the prophet: They took the thirty pieces of silver, the value of the valued one, which was valued from the children of Israel; 10. And they gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord commanded me.
Let's remember:
The dimension of the sin committed by Judah the Iscariot was so central that even his repentance did not have all its expected effects. It is one of the repentances refused both by God, the people, and by his accomplices; though the act was the basis of the salvation of mankind; since prophesied by Jeremiah several centuries before. As if that were not enough, the price of the betrayal which was used to purchase the Son of God, was also used to purchase a field which has been called: the field of blood which entered into history . Judah's wickedness had been so severely punished that even the 30 shekels of silver could not remain in the presence of God in his holy temple. Let us not forget that the purchased field could not be used for the children of Israel but it had been intended for the burial of foreigners only. No child of Israel could be buried there. Judah's tragic betrayal was followed by death everywhere, since the acquired field was only for the dead. Be careful because God punishes wickedness. Where there is wickedness, there is death.
