Topic: “The Presence of God”
Text: Hebrews 4:14-16
14. Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16. Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with confidence, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Remember this:
Jesus Christ is the priest who has passed through the heavens to bring us the presence of God, to establish his kingdom and his will on earth as it is in heaven. Once we were separated from Him by Adamic sin, He brought His presence among us to repair all the faults of the past, those of the present and the future. The presence of God helps us to enter into a life of obedience since Jesus succeeded in obeying to the end. He promises us His daily help so that we also succeed in obeying God. It is He who comforts us to remain faithfully in His presence. By counting on Him, we will be able to remain firm in the faith that we profess. Our high priest Jesus sympathizes with our weaknesses; He knows that we cannot resist without His help because He was tempted like us in all points, without committing sin. The greatest dimension that helps us to maintain the presence of God is self-sacrifice. We must sacrifice our will in order to value His. To continue to live in the presence of God, we must sacrifice the desires of the flesh, as He also sacrificed them in order not to sin. So he is the priest, he is also the sacrifice: he sums up the two in one. Let us therefore approach with confidence the presence of God in order to obtain mercy and to find grace to be helped in our needs. Excellent Sunday. Amen
