The practice of social justice in our homes

Sunday May 15, 2022

Theme : “ The practice of social justice in our homes Text : Numbers 27:1-11

1. The daughters of Zelophhad, son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Makir, son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh, son of Joseph, and whose names were Machla, Noa, Hogla, Milca and Thirsta, 2. s came and presented themselves before Moses, before the priest Eleazar, and before the princes and all the congregation, at the entrance of the tent of meeting. They said: 3. Our father died in the desert; he was not in the midst of the assembly of those who rebelled against the LORD, of the assembly of Korah, but he died for his sin, and he had no son. 4. Why should our father's name be cut off from his family, because he had no sons? Give us a possession among our father's brothers. 5. Moses brought the case before the Lord. 6. And the Lord said to Moses, 7. The daughters of Zelophhad are right. Thou shalt inherit unto them a possession among their father's brothers, and unto them thou shalt pass on the inheritance of their father. 8. Thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, and say: When a man dies without leaving a son, ye shall pass his inheritance on to his daughter. 9. If he has no daughter, you will give his inheritance to his brothers. 10. If he has no brothers, you shall give his inheritance to his father's brothers. 11. If there are no brothers of his father, you shall give his inheritance to the next of kin in his family, and he shall possess it. It will be for the children of Israel a law and a right, as the Lord commanded Moses.

Let's remember:

The Lord God took into account the grievance, the claim made by the daughters of Tselophchad; that of regaining possession of the inheritance which should rightfully belong to their father. The pattern of life at the time established a kind of injustice that marginalized girls; preventing them from inheriting property, for the simple reason of gender. Only the sons had access to such an inheritance. These girls took courage in their hands, presented themselves before Moses, before the priest Eleazar, and before the princes and all the assembly, at the entrance of the tent of meeting. To seek social justice redress, it is proper to make claims politely and without fussing the world. Let's do it in front of the tent symbol of the presence of God. Also, when one is a decision maker, one must always consult God by bringing before his face, each situation so that he decides according to his justice and his sovereignty. When our request is justified; God decides in our favor; he will make us right. Our grievance will become a perpetual law. Let's not create injustices but let's fix them. Excellent Sunday away from injustice. Amen Alain Louz.-
