Theme : “ The place of the Holy Scriptures in the ministry of Jesus Christ ”
Text : Matthew 4:1-4
1. Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the devil. 2. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3. The tempter approached and said to him: If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread. 4. Jesus answered: It is written: Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
Let's remember:
Jesus is the incarnate Word, the Holy Scriptures made flesh among men. Faced with each situation, He had no other point of reference than himself, the Word of God. He used the Word to demonstrate that the proper solution is in the Holy Scriptures. When the tempter comes before Jesus, wanting to take advantage of his famine to tempt him, Jesus did not give in to this dangerous game. He did not want to prove to the devil that he is the Son of God and as such, everything was permitted to him. However, he resorted to the Holy Scriptures to justify his reaction. Jesus would have transformed stones into bread just as he had, later, transformed water into wine (the best of wines); but he did not obey the devil. Jesus drew from Himself the compartment of Deuteronomy 8:3 to answer the tempter. Jesus did not want to enter into parleys with the devil or demonstrate his authority. The devil had succeeded in perverting Adam, but with Jesus he receives fierce resistance based on the Holy Scriptures. Let's practice the Holy Scriptures and we will succeed (Joshua 1.8) Excellent Monday. Amen Alain Louz.-
