Theme: “The need for salvation gives rise to the need for a good shepherd

Text: John 10:11-13

11. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. 12. But the hireling, who is not the shepherd, and whose sheep do not belong, sees the wolf coming, abandons the sheep, and flees; and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13. The hireling flees, because he is a hireling, and does not care for the sheep. I am the good shepherd.

Let's remember:

Let’s address the flight aspect of the responsibilities of shepherds of God’s flock. If a shepherd runs away from his responsibilities, he is worse than a mercenary. Headlong flight is a sign of irresponsibility which hides the inability to resolve problems. A shepherd must take head-on every situation that arises in the sheepfold. He must not get rid of it by making excuses. Jesus the good shepherd faced the shameful death of the cross to save his sheep. He did not refuse to suffer death, he entrusted himself to his Father. This is what should also characterize us: going to the Lord God to seek his support when we lack strength, when our efforts fade. Let us not run away from our responsibilities. Let's not go backwards when it comes to moving forward. Let us not expose the sheep to the popular vindictiveness of the wolves. Let's chase away the wolves that approach the sheepfold. Let's use the shepherd's staff and crook to scare away the ravening wolves. If by mistake a sheep is in danger, if a wolf has already seized a sheep, let's do like David. 1 Samuel 17:34. “David said to Saul, Your servant was tending his father's sheep. And when a lion or a bear came to take one from the flock, 35. I ran after him, I struck him, and I snatched the sheep from his mouth. If he rose up against me, I would seize him by the throat, strike him, and kill him.” This is a valiant example to follow. Excellent Sunday. Amen
