Topic: “The Lord is Near

Text: Luke 19:1-10

1. Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through the city. 2. And behold, a rich man named Zacchaeus, the chief tax collector, was seeking to see who Jesus was; 3. and could not see him because of the crowd, because he was short in stature. 4. And he ran ahead and climbed up a sycamore tree to see him, because he was about to pass that way. 5. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for I must stay at your house today. 6. And Zacchaeus hastened down and received him gladly. 7. And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, He has gone to stay with a sinful man. 8. But Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said to him, “Look, Lord, half of my possessions I give to the poor, and if I have taken anything from anyone, I restore him fourfold.” 9. Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man also is a son of Abraham.” 10. For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Let us remember:

The heart of the one who wants to be saved is not at peace when the Lord is near. Salvation is never separated from Jesus. When we see Jesus, we see salvation. When he approaches, let us run and climb up to meet him. Jesus does not like lowliness, he rather likes what is high. We must know how to distinguish between ordinary mortals and us who sigh for salvation. Let us thirst for salvation. Let us sacrifice our ego or our pride because the cause is very important. We must not let salvation pass us by because it is a unique opportunity in life. Today again, let us go up to meet the Lord. He is close to those who seek Him with a pressing motivation to find Him. Sin does not make us grow, it shrivels us and makes us crawl like the ancient serpent that was reduced to biting the dust. Sin makes us vulnerable and prevents us from seeing the splendor of our Lord who is near. But if we confess our iniquities and agree to repair what can be repaired, the Lord will stay with us and share bread with us. The prejudices of our neighbor must not prevent us from saying our sincere confession to the Lord. Let us confess all our faults to the Lord Jesus so that He may free us. If the Lord Jesus is not yet visible before us, let us wait a little, He will soon arrive before us. Let us be ready, let us locate the place that could help us attract the attention of our Lord so that He sees us as He passes by. The Lord is near, let us make a place for Him in our lives. Excellent Wednesday. Amen
