Theme : “ The life of Daniel: what lessons for us? "
Text : Daniel 9: 2-8
2.In the first year of his reign I, Daniel, saw by the books that seventy years were to elapse for the ruins of Jerusalem, according to the number of years of which the Lord had spoken to Jeremiah , the Prophet. 3. I turned my face to the Lord God, to have recourse to prayer and supplication, fasting and taking sackcloth and ashes. 4. I prayed to the Lord my God, and made this confession to him, Lord, great and dreadful God, you who keep your covenant, and have mercy on those who love you and keep your commandments. 5. We have sinned, we have committed iniquity, we have been wicked and rebellious, we have turned aside from your commandments and your judgments. 6. We did not listen to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, and to our rulers, to our fathers, and to all the people of the land. 7. Yours, Lord, is righteousness, and confusion of face on this day, to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, to those near and to those far; in all the countries where you have driven them out because of the infidelities of which they are guilty towards you. 8. Lord, confusion of face to us, to our kings, and to our rulers, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against you.
Let us remember :
Daniel was not at all guilty before God. Rather, it was his ancestors who had committed the irreparable. Daniel prayed for the forgiveness of the sins on which his generation depended. He had worried about the faults of his fathers while he lived in abundance although in deportation. He made it his personal sin to the point of carrying the sack and "sprinkling" the ashes. He put himself in an almost “ridiculous” state of humiliation to wrest God's favors. He fasted, prayed, and begged God to forgive the sins of kings, rulers, fathers, and all the people of the land. This is the true intercessor. Daniel loved to read the Word of God. This is how he discovered the origin of the tragedy which overwhelmed his people. He made it his problem to the point of stirring the throne of God with his devoted insistence. He shows us that one person can change the destiny of all the people; through his intercession. Excellent intercessory Thursday. Amen Alain Louz.-
