Theme : “ The life of Daniel: what lessons for us? "
Text : Daniel 6: 7-10
7. All the rulers of the kingdom, the stewards, the satraps, the counselors, and the governors are of the opinion that a royal edict be issued, with a severe prohibition, declaring that whoever, within the space of thirty days, will address prayers to any god or man except you, O king, will be cast into the den of lions. 8. Now, O king, confirm the defense, and write the decree, that it may be irrevocable, according to the law of Medes and Persians, which is immutable. 9. Thereupon King Darius wrote the decree and the defense. 10. When Daniel heard that the decree was written, he withdrew to his house, where the windows of the upper chamber were open towards Jerusalem; and three times a day he knelt down, he prayed, and he praised his God, as he did before.
Let us remember :
This text teaches us fidelity, courage and perseverance despite plots. The king could pass a law to restrict certain freedoms, but Daniel had kept his autonomy of prayer in spite of the dangers which threatened him. Daniel knew his windows were open and people wanted to grab him in "the act" of worship. But he did not close his windows, he did not hide to worship and pray. Daniel was not disturbed by the king's law although it was a trap. Neither did he address his adoration to the king, as the published edict said. Daniel had not reduced his prayer times; he had kept the same prayer times and the same liturgy. Daniel always prayed on his knees since he knew the secret of bending the knees. Bending the knees before God marks humility but also respect for God. Daniel praised God every day without respite and without fear. Excellent Tuesday and good end of August. Amen Alain Louz.-
