Topic: “The Hope of God’s Children”
Text: 1 Peter 1:3-5
3. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4. to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that fades away, reserved in heaven for you, 5. who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time!
Remember:
The apostle Peter, in writing this letter, was addressing those who were foreigners and scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia. For him, these people were chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctification of the Spirit. The avowed goal was to make them obedient to God. He asked them to keep a full hope in God who sent them Jesus Christ, for the salvation of their souls. Peter was addressing, among others, the pagans but his message concerned the hope of salvation. He told them to preserve this hope by loving God and obeying his Word. It is therefore the same message today for us. Each person who has a hope based on God, must watch over his relationship with this God. It is not consistent to count on a person in whom we do not have confidence. And if ever, we have confidence in a person, we follow his orders and instructions in order to confirm this adherence. If God has regenerated us according to his great mercy, it is for a living hope, by the resurrection from the dead, of his son Jesus Christ. This hope concerns our great inheritance of entering into his kingdom. It is an incorruptible, indestructible and immovable inheritance. No one can shift our inheritance, no one can push it away or remove it. No one has thought of it except God himself. So, let us have a hope based on this inheritance acquired at the price of the blood of Jesus shed on the cross. Excellent Sunday. Amen
