Theme : " The God of Jacob "
Text : Genesis 28: 10-22
10. Jacob departed from Beersheba, and went to Haran. 11. He came to a place where he spent the night; for the sun had set. There he took a stone, and made it his bedside, and he lay down there. 12. He had a dream. And behold, a ladder was resting on the earth, and its top reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending by that ladder. 13. And, behold, the LORD was above her; and he said, I am the Lord, the God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac. The earth on which you are lying I will give to you and to your seed. 14. Your seed will be like the dust of the earth; you will extend to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south; and all the families of the earth will be blessed in you and in your seed. 15. Behold, I am with you, and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not forsake you until I do what I tell you. 16. Jacob awoke from his sleep, and said, Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it. 17. He was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! This is the house of God, this is the door to heaven! 18. And Jacob rose early in the morning; he took the stone of which he had made his bedside, he set it up for a monument, and he poured oil on its top. 19. He called the name of that place Bethel; but the city was previously called Luz. 20. Jacob made a vow, saying, If God is with me and keeps me on this journey that I am taking, if he gives me bread to eat and clothes to clothe me, 21. and if I return in peace to my father's house, then the Lord will be my God; 22. this stone, which I have set up for a monument, will be the house of God; and I will tithe you for whatever you give me.
Let us remember :
When we sleep, what serves as our bedside? For some it is amulets, candles, salt and for others statuettes, holy water… Others place the Bible at the bedside for protection. Jacob had set the stone which is the image of Christ the base, the foundation of all life and of the Church. If we only hope in the Lord the God of Jacob, we will have a daily cohort of angels who will parade around us to sanctify us, guide us, bless us, instruct us. God will interfere in our daily life and make all our work triumph. Let us welcome the God of Jacob because it is He who always watches over us; even when we sleep. He watches over His promise to fulfill it; He gives us more than we ask of him. He blesses our offspring when they do not yet exist; He cedes to us territories that belong to others. He is the God of our challenges. Hallelujah, Long live the God of Jacob. Excellent Sunday. Amen Alain Louz.-
