Topic: "The Conduct of the Christian Widow"

Text: Luke 2:36-38

36. And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very advanced in years, and had lived with her husband seven years since her virginity. 37. And being a widow, and eighty-four years old, she did not leave the temple, but served God night and day, fasting and praying. 38. And when she also came at that same hour, she praised God, and spoke of Jesus to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.

Let us remember:

The widow prophetess Anna, aged 84, took part in the consecration of Jesus. She fulfilled her mission, played her part, and is written in the annals of Christian history. This widow, versed in fasting and prayer, is a model of obedience and zeal. She is the only one in her lineage to participate in the consecration of Jesus before the crowds. She is distinguished by the fact that she married at a very advanced age. She lived only seven years with her husband and then the irreparable happened, death. She went to the wedding at a very old age but with her virginity. Her conduct is very particular because she became a widow and, aged eighty-four, she did not leave the temple, and she served God night and day in fasting and prayer. It is very exceptional to see an 84-year-old widow leading a life of fasting and prayer because there is an age when the body can no longer tolerate abstinence from food. The body tires easily and seeks the nutrients necessary for its fortification. However, the widow Anne had trained her body so much in fasting that she did it without the risk of reactive hypoglycemia which occurs without underlying pathology following, among other things, an absence of meals or taking them too late. The behavior of this widow was atypical and appreciated by all. She praised God, and she spoke of Jesus (evangelization) to all those who were waiting for the deliverance of Jerusalem. Excellent Sunday. Amen
