The Conduct of the Christian Widow

Saturday June 22, 2024

Theme: “The Conduct of the Christian Widow

Text: Acts 9:36-41

36. There was a woman in Joppa, among the disciples, named Tabitha, which means Dorcas: she did many good works and alms. 37. She fell ill at that time, and died. After washing her, she was placed in an upper room. 38. As Lydda is near Joppa, the disciples, having heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him, to beg him to come to them without delay. 39. Peter got up and went with these men. When he arrived, he was taken to the upper room. All the widows surrounded him, weeping, and showed him the tunics and garments that Dorcas made while she was with them. 40. Peter brought everyone out, and knelt down, and prayed; then, turning towards the body, he said: Tabitha, get up! She opened her eyes, and having seen Pierre, she sat down. 41. He gave her his hand, and made her raise up. Then he called the saints and the widows, and presented her to them alive.

Let's remember:

Dorcas was among the disciples of Jesus Christ according to verse 36. Her primary characteristic was to do many good works especially towards widows. We too, if we are true disciples, do good works towards widows. Every good work is a source of blessing and intercession. The widows we serve are the same ones who pray for the growth and success of our discipleship. They cry out to God so that nothing happens to us that could interfere with our walk with the Lord God. But if it happens that despite their prayers, something irreparable happens, they will rise up and show the Lord all our good works. It is another form of intercession more powerful than words. Our works speak louder than our words because every work is a manifestation of faith. A work is made of faith, it is the symbol of materialized faith. God is never far from the intercession of widows. When widows surround a difficult case with their supplications, this case is resolved, God hears them. When widows join together and lift their hearts to God, the solution does not take long. Widows never throw away what we give them, they keep it and use it to show God our good works. Let's help widows because they pray for us. Have a great Saturday. Amen
