Theme: “The Conduct of the Christian Widow”
Text: Titus 2:3-4
3. Say that older women must also have an appearance suitable for holiness, neither being slanderers nor addicted to wine; that they should give good instructions, 4. for the purpose of teaching young women to love their husbands and children,
Let's remember:
The apostle Paul gives instructions and teachings to Titus, his legitimate child in the faith. He wants Titus to reframe old women and widows. Let him teach them to mentor but ensure they set an example. Indeed, elderly women and widows must share their experiences accumulated in homes. Everything they have stored must be put to use for the edification of young unmarried mothers who advance in the family priesthood. We know that the marital home is made up of joys and sorrows. Elderly women and widows know this best; they have school cases and other practical cases to share. However, Paul wants older women, including widows, to have an exterior suitable for holiness as well as their interior. First, fill their interior with faith in God; then also make the exterior correspond so that there is concordance between faith and works. Thus, old women and widows should neither be slanderers nor addicted to wine; nor insolent, but they must give good instructions, with the aim of teaching young women to love their husbands and children. Paul does not want things that are consistent with sound doctrine to be neglected. He wants widows and widowers to be sober, honest, moderate, healthy in faith, in charity, in patience in order to be good models. Excellent Tuesday. Amen
