The Church, a community of God's children

Tuesday, August 6, 2024

Theme: "The Church, a community of God's children"

Text: John 12:34-36

34. The crowd answered him, We have heard from the law that Christ abides forever; how then do you say, 'The Son of Man must be lifted up?' Who is this Son of Man? 35. Jesus said to them, 'The light is with you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, so that darkness may not overtake you. He who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. 36. While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may be children of light. Jesus said these things, and then he went away and hid himself from them.

Let us remember:

The Church is our common home, God's property placed at the disposal of his children. It is a community bringing together God's children. The common criterion that must be found in the life of every child of God is light. A child of God, a member of the community called the Church, lives in the light. This goes without saying, and could not be otherwise. Child of God implies reflection of the light of God. The primary source of this light remains God. He is brighter than the sun at its zenith. As proof, the day that the light of Jesus was extinguished on the cross, the sun was extinguished because it could do no better than flee for three hours while the true sun of justice (Jesus) disappeared for three days (Luke 23:44-45). The sun fears its creator and devotes obedience and subjection to him. We too, let us be true lights that obey Jesus the source light. We are pilgrims in this world. May our light remain lit and never go out. Above all, let us live under the luminous brilliance of Jesus so that his light shines on us and we are always enlightened. The Church must never be in darkness because it belongs to the light, it is the light. He who doubts God is not a child of light. Excellent Tuesday. Amen
