Theme: "The Christian, Salt of the Earth"
Text: Micah 6:6-8
6. With what shall I come before the LORD, to humble myself before the Most High God? Shall I come with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? 7. Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgressions, and the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? - 8. He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
Let us remember:
Offerings and sacrifices do not make us the salt of the earth. Regular participation in church activities does not make us the salt of the earth. Our spiritual gifts and our good words are not a sign of recognition of the Christian salt of the earth. What makes the difference is our heartfelt impulse, our deep aspiration. What God expects of us, what the Lord asks of us, is that we practice justice, that we love mercy, and that we walk humbly with God. We must be true models of obedience to God, good models of charity, faithful servants accomplished in all good works. Does the Lord find pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obedience to his voice? Obedience is better than sacrifices, and the observance of his word is better than the fat of rams. The Christian, salt of the earth, has only one concern: to please his God. He does not seek to redeem his life by sacrifices and offerings. Let us know that an offering coming from a disobedient person is a vile and lost offering. We must first sanctify ourselves to become the salt of the earth. Being calm or intelligent does not make us the salt of the earth. The salt of the earth is the person who practices justice, who loves mercy, and who walks humbly with his God. Excellent Thursday. Amen
